Hans and his team would have deserved 6 out of 5 stars. Perfect organization, good advises during the Covid period (we had to delay twice). Even during the trip always helpful in the background.... They made our first selfdrive Africa journey a great experience, we'll never forget.

Selfdrive4x4 provided all that they said they would, and, as a result, we had great trip unmarred by any major problems.

When the airlines changed our schedule by two days, Hans was quick to incorporate the changes into a new trip. We found that the What's App call with Hans prior to the trip was very helpful and... There was lots of time for relaxed self-game drives between campsites in Etosha NP but it felt far more rushed in the delta of Botswana, where more of the day is spent doing some challenging driving... There was lots of time for relaxed self-game drives between campsites in Etosha NP but it felt far more rushed in the delta of Botswana, where more of the day is spent doing some challenging driving in areas that are not conducive to seeing game, and then there is less incentive to hop back in for more driving after arriving at the campsite. One solution might be to encourage a 2nd night at a site that is especially suited to self game drives.

We spent an amazing month on our Self-drive 4x4 through Namibia and Botswana. Hans was very helpful throughout the process, meeting with us virtually, and helping to tailor our itinerary to meet... Hans was very helpful throughout the process, meeting with us virtually, and helping to tailor our itinerary to meet our needs and wishes. Everyplace he recommended was outstanding, from the campsites and parks to the B and Bs. We were able to maintain contact with Hans during our trip for advice, questions, or just to share our progress. We hope to return for another Self-Drive 4x4 adventure!

We are keen on photography and nature. Namibia was on our shortlist but, every time postponed as we could not fit our time schedule regular trip offered by Travel agencies( fixed dates). This... We are keen on photography and nature. Namibia was on our shortlist but, every time postponed as we could not fit our time schedule regular trip offered by Travel agencies( fixed dates). This December /January we found the company Selfdrive4x4.com It was the best solution. We just inform what data we want to be there How long and inform what type of explorers we are, add some must-see places from our side - the rest was done by Hans! He arrange a suitable jeep for us, planned a detailed itinerary exclusively for our journey, book lodges and campings. He also points out some mistakes (not optimal way) of our own plan and corrects them after we agree to avoid too long distances or unnecessary moves to optimize the route. All the time we were in Namibia we knew that there is someone willing to advise or help. Hans's choice of campings was excellent, we did not even bother to check them before from internet. All was done in a short time as our final decision to go to Namibia was very late (behavior not recommend it in high season!)
As we are mainly sailors, once traveling, driving 4x4 with a tent on the roof was a unique experience but we enjoy it very much. A fantastic idea to really explore this country, seeing Namibia at your own pace, not necessarily slowly. From this trip, we bring excellent memories and pictures. Ps. COVID ? Everyone has to decide by himself but we gain from the situation as there was not crowded at any of popular attraction points.

He was patient with our many questions, quick at solving the multiple issues that arose from airlines changing... The service provided by Slefdrive 4x4 (specifically, Hans) could not have been better. He was patient with our many questions, quick at solving the multiple issues that arose from airlines changing our flights, listened to our requests, and delivered the experience we were looking for; drives away from the crowds, tons of sites to immerse ourselves in the majestic nature of Namibia and Botswana, and peace of mind that we had backup when the unavoidable challenges of traveling during Covid. Hans's experience and knowledge of both countries were instrumental in creating a perfect route for our month-long self-drive in Namibia and Botswana.

The areas of improvement we encountered through our month-long journey don't have anything to do with Selfdrive 4x4 as a company but with the reality of traveling during Covid. A couple of the B&B's... A couple of the B&B's could have been a bit cleaner and offer better food, but we understand that the travel industry is struggling and it might be hard for some to keep up the "lights on" when there was almost no tourist.

When I encountered minor problems with my vehicle during the trip, the insurance company chosen was responsive and helped resolve the issue quickly. When there was a minor issue with one of my bookings, they booked an alternative location and informed me via text message.

Strengths

I like the shared dropbox folder with files that I could review as they added and updated them. They were very responsive when I wrote questions and asked advice. The standard 22 day itinerary... I would have liked the option for more discussion before making a choice of itinerary, perhaps with an option of extending the entire trip by spending more time in one location or another. The web... The web site does indicate that this is possible, but when I asked questions about it via email, the person I corresponded with did not pick up on it. In the end, I think the 22 day self-drive tour suited me well, so I am not disappointed, although I might have extended my trip by a few days if we had discussed this possibility more during the booking process.
