Hi, so for a short intro: I found the golem.de article on soylent, and then read the t3n post with the 12 different shakes. In general I don't like buying groceries & cooking, but I want to eat healthy, so the concept of the shakes fits perfectly for me. Also, I was at a congress in December and was quite annoyed because of the bad (junk) food there.
In the ideal case I would be able to replace all my meals in such situations with shakes. And my goal would be to replace breakfast at least. In times of maximum lazyness also the others meals of the day ;)
Then I bought the starter packs of Queal, Joylent, and Stonershake to have a better comparison. I tested Queal, Joylent together with a friend (and Stonershake later separately). We tried a whole Sunday only with 6 shakes. That worked surprisingly well (besides some flatulence in the evening)
Joylent and Queal are creamy, Stonershake has some pieces inside. Seems that we prefer creamy.
Our experience was mostly positive. Most variants taste ok. (Except choco peanut - that was just disgusting, but personal tastes are probably different ...)
Choco and funky forest are quite weak/neutral, but it's ok as well, should therefore work to mix them with juice I'd prefer some sort like peach & passion fruit, my friend suggested escalope :-P (Maybe I'll try mixing funky forest with some peach juice ...)
I like the big size of the Queal shaker (and it's good, that its provided for free for new customers) Also the sports variant sounds interesting & useful, I'll try this out as well.
Joylent and Queal seemed to be quite similar (taste & consistency), maybe Queal had a slightly better taste, I'll test that more soon.
My colleagues and most friends think I'm crazy, but seems that's normal for shake food atm ... In general I think a price below 5€/day would be awesome. (Also the wundrbar should reach this price level) Below a daily price of 3-4€ I'd change all my meals to shakes ;)
So for the ingedients: Queal should get rid of the Palm-Oil! Joylent has Magnesium-Oxide, that should be replaced with trimagnesium-dicitrate. Seems that Queal has more natural ingredients, so thats better.
4/5 stars now: because it fits it's purpose at the moment. 5/5 will be, when: * I have my peach & passion fruit variant ;) * I'll be able to drink them 3 times a day without no downsides ... * Get rid of palm-oil
